Plant Manager

PURPOSE: This position will direct and oversee the successful operations of the West Hill facility in alignment with corporate objectives and continuous improvement.

SUMMARY: Reports directly to the Operations Director and is responsible for managing, directing, and implementing strategies and objectives to ensure achievement of the company’s goals in the production of plastic film. This includes all aspects of manufacturing operations focusing on safety, quality, quantity, cost control, equipment and maintenance, and employee relations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Foster and enhance an exemplary safety culture to achieve safety excellence
• Provide operational and employee leadership to the facility while maintaining good standing relationships with all workforce members (union and non-union)
• Encourage and support the development of all employees through good communication and frequent performance feedback, fostering a sense of accountability throughout the plant
• Ensure compliance with union contract provisions as required
• Partner with department managers to develop and maintain a positive culture consistent with our values
• Manage financial performance and make required changes as needed to meet business commitments, improve processes and increase cost savings, and improve competitive service level for the plant
• Manage all aspects of the plant cost structure including direct and indirect labor, maintenance and consumable spending and proactively control business volume swings to preserve profitability
• Assist operating management with budgeting, production statistics, cost analysis, justification of capital expenditures and asset management
• Work towards the minimization of scrap production while maximizing conforming materials efficiently and effectively
• Monitor raw materials and supplies on hand to ensure adequate supply
• Lead the facility in establishing and meeting continuous improvement objectives for the purpose of future growth
• Lead the West Hill plant to achieve a Global Food Safety Initiative certification WECA
• Direct and approve all requisitions for plant as required
• Ensure the protection of company assets through appropriate maintenance methodologies
• Work with management to control allocation and use of personnel to ensure fulfillment of production schedules at the lowest possible cost
• Establish, drive and attain goals for the organizational unit by effective communication and management of goals so that all employees are working in unison for goal achievement
• Complete responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures and assure compliance with all provincial and federal regulatory institutions including OHSA, MOE, MOL, and Quality Audits
• Accountable for the safety of all employees through active engagement in safety activities and provide clear, consistent communication of safe work expectations
• Actively lead risk assessment activities by driving prioritized corrective and preventive actions to eliminate/reduce environmental, health or safety risks and exposure
• Overall management responsibility for all aspects of quality including product performance, complaint resolution, customer satisfaction and maintenance and improvement of quality systems
• Continuously improve customer satisfaction through programs to provide on-time delivery that meets and/or exceeds customer quality and cost expectations
• Responsible for incorporating continuous quality improvement principles into daily quality culture
• Maintain 24 hour/day on call availability to deal with potential problems/issues

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree/College Diploma preferred
• 10+ years managerial experience
• Highly motivated, results driven
• Knowledge of and experience with plastic extrusion processes preferred
• Knowledge of and experience in leading a progressive manufacturing unionized facility
• Knowledge of, and experience, with AIB or food standard requirements
• Knowledge of Ontario regulatory guidelines, legislation and policies
• Strong leadership, communication, and motivational skills
• Strong planning/organizational skills with proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously
• Excellent analytical skills required
• Knowledge of Microsoft office tools
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team setting
• Ability to effectively communicate/present findings to a wide variety of audiences
• Ability to supervise, coach, mentor and perform other functions associated with leading and managing a group

Salary Range: $130-150k.
