Production Manager

The Production Manager is responsible for building competent operations staff including machining, debur,
assembly, maintenance and tool crib. The Production Manager is responsible for developing operating
procedures and standards and optimizing use of infrastructure to support the growth targeted in the strategic plan.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Foster a positive employee relation’s climate, which encourages buy-in, teamwork and full participation by employees across the organization.
2. Lead Visual Management activities and maintain communication lines with department managers and support teams
3. Oversee and coordinate manufacturing operations to ensure on-time starts and completions within estimated standards and quality levels.
4. Ensure operations employees are compliant with procedures, manufacturing operation sheets, and work instructions.
5. Develop functional and cross-functional performance to achieve desired productivity, (efficiency to standards, indirect by direct and equipment utilization), preventative maintenance, scrap and rework levels, continuous improvement, and other operational objectives.
6. Manage production expenses to budget including tooling, fixtures and consumables.
7. Lead Root Cause and Corrective Action investigations when performance levels and other operational objectives are not met
8. Actively support the company’s quality management system, and other programs, such as Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing.
9. Prepare and monitor operation and capital budgets.
10. Administer staffing, performance management and training (including cross-training to ensure process flow) and development activities in accordance with company human resources policy and procedures.
11. Ensure that health and safety programs are developed, implemented and enforced in a manner that safeguards the protection of staff and promotes prompt responses to health and safety concerns or incidents.


Qualifications and Requirements
  • A Technologist accreditation is required, preferably in engineering or another technical discipline.
  • A business or non-technical education (or working towards one) supported by relevant experience may be a suitable alternative.
  • Requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant manufacturing operations experience in a leadership role (Aerospace preferred).
Working Environment and Physical Demands
  • Open area with noise
  • Subject to regular interruptions
  • Sitting for long periods of time
  • Travel may be required

Job-Specific Competencies
  • In depth knowledge of safety and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge CNC and conventional machining, assembly and deburr
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance program methods
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Tools such as Visual Management, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Set Up reduction
  • Working knowledge of quality tools and their implementation such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), Six Sigma, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) and Process Failure Mode and Analysis (PFMEA)
  • Knowledge of materials management, purchasing, and quality systems would be an asset.
  • Excellent skills in communication, delegation, problem solving, multi-tasking and team building.
  • Strong ability to create and fulfil vision of future operations.
  • Ability to build effective teams, which are strongly customer focused.
  • Leadership - Ability to influence, mobilize, and gain personal commitment and achieve results.
  • Supervision - Ability to recruit & select, manage performance, train and develop employees.
Salary Range: $85-90k
